  • Integration of photonics, electronics, and phononics for heat dissipation of AI-semiconductor devices
  • Phonon qubit for quantum computing
  • Novel material for phonon manipulation: phonon transistor, thermal circuitry, and, nanoscale thermal radiation

Introduction

  • In the AI era, futuer chips are specialized for deep learning. Semiconductor roadmaps such as IRDS and HIR, accordingly, require new methodologies for future chips 1) to improve computing performance and thermal managements and 2) to overcome the restrictions from memory wall and power wall.
  • In the AI Semiconductors Lab, we propose and develop the alternatives for the AI era, termed quantum thermal managements and systematic intergration among photonics-electronics-phononics, to be ready for 3D stacking architectures such as the Gate-All-Around and logic-HBM heterogeneous integration. Fittingly to roadmaps, AI-S lab members work on practical and pragmatic solutions such as AI-based data analytics algorithms, quantum information processing and quantum heat dissipation.
